ABOUT ISLAND BREEZE
-
Island Breeze is a Christian Charity that has 13 locations worldwide. We are part of Youth With A Mission (YWAM) and many bases run Discipleship Training Schools (DTS), schools on Cultural Restoration, and have a cultural performance team that represents their countries expressions of music and dance – or in our case, represent the music and dance of the Pacific Islands that many of our volunteer team members are from.
Island Breeze Manitoba runs kids rugby programs and a Volleyball Discipleship Training School (DTS) in addition to our Club Volleyball.

What does this mean to my Taika player?
We incorporate our values in how we coach our teams, and we have a Taika Timeout session where we talks specifically with the players about our core values: Trust, Attitude, Integrity, Kindness, Aspire.
F.A.Q.
-
This is my first Club Volleyball Season. What do I need to know?
Club volleyball is very competitive. There are upwards of 50 player that try out per age group for 12 spots on the team. We are looking for players who are a good fit for our club and share our Taika values. Positivity and good sportsmanship is very important to us. Practices happen 2-3 times a week on a varying schedule. Players who are multi-sport or have a lot of time commitments may find it difficult to juggle the schedule.
You can follow us on social media to see when tryouts will be held as well as check the website and we will give information about fees etc at tryouts.
-
What do my fees all cover?
Club fees cover tournament registrations, player registration, gym rentals, uniforms, equipment, coaching certification and swag (backpack, sweats, sweatshirt).
-
What is not included in the fees?
Not included in the season club fees is your transportation to tournaments, Nationals fees, personal season photos (optional) and some team meals/activities (optional) and possibly wind up costs (depending on what the team decides to do).
-
How do tryouts work?
Tryouts are held during a designated timeline from Volleyball Manitoba (usually in early December) over 2-3 days. Information regarding club rules can be found on the Vball MB website. Players can register ahead of time or show up to the tryout and pay the fee by etransfer. It doesn’t matter if a player comes to 1, 2 or 3 days of tryouts – if they impress us, 1 day is enough. Unfortunately if a player is sick or injured and cannot show up for any of the tryout days, we are unable to consider them.
Some players may be made offers sooner than others, but official emails will go out to all players who came to tryouts, regardless. Some players may not accept their offers so there could be more spots available closer to the deadline. Players have a determined amount of time to make a decision and respond to the Club.
-
What if my application for the tryout didn’t go thru?
Players can show up to tryouts on the day, pay their fee by etransfer and be seen. Tryout fees are non-refundableif someone is unable to show or changes their mind.
-
Is there a limit to the amount of people that are seen at tryouts?
We try out best to see all players that come to tryouts. We definitely see all the players that register. Some players may be released from tryouts early to make room for other players if they are already being considered or if their skill level is behind the majority of the other players.
-
How many tournaments can I expect during the season?
You can expect between 5-7 tournaments depending on the age group. Nationals is a lottery draw and not guaranteed for any teams, but there are other tournaments out of province that are also an option. 13u does not have Nationals.
-
Will the coach of my team change during the season?
Players (and families) that accept a spot on one of our teams say yes to our club and also to the coach of that team. The head coach will not change unless there is a situation in which the coach is no longer able to coach and the club makes that decision. Players and parents will not influence the removal of a coach. We are set on this and will not be swayed by parents or players preferences.
-
What kind of policies does Taika have?
Players and parents both sign a code of conduct as well as our policies for the season. These are shared at our Parent’s night which happens after tryouts. If there is a breach of the code of conduct, the club manager will address the issue. In serious cases, a player can be removed from a team without a refund.
-
What if I have more questions?
If you have more questions, you can email us – but please read through all the FAQ’s first as we get a lot of inquiries. Thank you!
